AGS: Dungeons and Dragons for Poli-Sci Majors

If one has a compelling message and a powerful vision, one can build an e-empire on the Internet. Kos did it. Atrios did it. But even without such niceties as "reasonableness" or "sanity", one can become a minor Internet celebrity.

Take for example my friend and e-sparring partner, Adam T. Yoshida.

Over the course of the last decade, Adam has gotten exposure on a number of A-list sites. Atrios has written about him multiple times (see here, and here), as well as the folks over at Sadly No and Crooked Timber. Over seventeen Daily Kos diaries are devoted to excoriating Yoshida-ism. Yoshida's star has risen so high among the bloggering kool kids that he needs no introduction.

How did Adam accomplish this feat? By being among the most obnoxiously right-wing people on the Internet. He's so right-wing that he was banned from Free Republic. Adam gloats about being "the most right-wing person in all of Canada."

Being out on the fringes of mainstream politics isn't helping Adam's off-line political career. He ran for school board and not only did he lose, he was booed at public candidate meetings.

But on the Internet, where anything is possible, Adam Yoshida has been elected e-President of the American Government Simulation not once, but twice. He was recently entrusted with out virtual national security as virtual National Security Advisor by the incoming Republican administration.

Then there are folks like me - once active bloggerering kool kids, but burned out.

The idea of AGS is that players play virtual politicians, pass bills, write PRs, and run for virtual office. It is almost (but not quite) as cynical as the real thing. In short, AGS is professional wrestling for Z-list internet celebrities. Dungeons and Dragons for poli-sci majors. Monopoly for people who can't play Monopoly without cheating. And a heck of a lot of fun. We have no need to cry over the Libby Pardons or Alberto Gonzales or other Bushist nonsense - we make our own nonsense!

If you would like to join, please visit AmericanGovernmentSimulation.Com. We are in dire need of progressive players right now.

If, instead, you would like to laugh at us and/or fear for the future of America, you can do that, too.
